MP-38/40
Developed at the request of German Armored forces in the late 1930s, the MP-40 was originally designed for tank crewmen who needed substantially more firepower than a pistol in the event the tank was disabled or destroyed. The stamped steel construction and limited number of machined parts made the MP-38/40 ideal for mass production. Ease of manufacturing combined with the reliability of the MP-38/40 made it the logical choice as the standard submachine gun Germany equipped its military forces with during World War II.
