STG-44

The Sturmgewehr 44, German for "assault rifle, model of 1944," featured a selector switch that gave the weapon the capability of semi or fully automatic fire, a 32-round magazine, and utilized a shortened and compact version of the standard 7.92MM rifle round. This revolutionary newly designed rifle was intended to replace both the standard K-98 rifle and the MP-40 machine pistol, but less than 500,000 were produced before the war's conclusion. The STG-44 influenced post-war design so dramatically that the "assault rifle" is now standard issue in militaries around the globe.
