A key element of the Allied strategy in WWII was to master amphibious warfare. This required a purpose-built craft that could land men and equipment on an open beach. In 1941, Higgins Industries modified an earlier craft to include a bow ramp, which made the deployment of troops, vehicles, and equipment vastly easier. The resulting LCVP revolutionized amphibious warfare by carrying 36 men or one jeep and 12 men onto a hostile shore.
