MG-42 Ammunition Belt

The National WWII Museum, Education Collection

The MG-42 was capable of an extremely high rate of fire at approximately 1,200 rounds per minute. It was most commonly loaded with 50 or 250 round steel ammunition belts like this one. The belts helped to reduce jamming. The design of the belt was later copied and used in many modern machineguns in use today.
