Double Buckle Boots

Gift in memory of Arthur P. Smith, 2009.560.001

The M-43 Combat Boot, referred to in common parlance as the "Double Buckle," replaced the earlier Army Service Shoe which had required the wear of uncomfortable leggings which provided little protection. When the new M-1943 combat uniform was adopted leggings were replaced by double-buckle boots, so named for the fact that a leather cuff was added to the top of teh service shoe and secured with a set of two buckles.
