Hiram Boone served with 612th Field Artillery Battalion, 5332nd Brigade (Provisional), the "Mars Task Force" working specifically with the 75mm pack howitzer and mules, beginning with a 63-day trip to Calcutta, India along with 300 mules aboard the SS Cyrus. During the war, Boone participated in four campaigns against the Japanese in Burma. Boone documented his experiences with this camera in a series of photographs, many of which include "Chick," Boone's personal riding mount.
