USS Missouri Surrender Card

Gift of Frank Borrell, 2010.485.013

This card was a certification proving that Francis A. Borrell was present at the formal Japanese surrender ceremony onboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay, Japan on September 2, 1945. The card is printed to look like the Imperial Japanese Navy ensign, the flag flown by all Imperial Japanese Naval vessels, including those that had attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941. Attendees to the event received similar cards as mementos of the historic event.
