Gift of Grace A. Forsch Bagg, 2010.161.298

The US Maritime Service established several training facilities throughout the United States to prepare men for service in the US Merchant Marine. The largest of these facilities was at Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn, New York. The Sheepshead Training Station could train up to 30,000 mariners each year. Trainees at the facility wore this insignia on their uniforms.
