Gift of Captain J.W. Clark, 2001.072.004
The SS Richard M. Johnson was laid down at Delta Shipbuilding in New Orleans in April 1943 and launched just 40 days later on June 5, 1943, with John W. Clark in command. The Richard M. Johnson delivered cargo to both the European and Pacific Theaters and even circumnavigated the globe on one voyage to the China-Burma-India Theater. After three decades of service, the Richard M. Johnson was broken up for scrap in 1973.
