The SS William E. Pendleton was launched by Delta Shipbuilding Company in New Orleans on September 1, 1943. Delta was one of the first yards established in the United States specifically to build Liberty ships. The yard could work on six ships at the same time, with an average construction time of two months per ship. The William E. Pendleton survived the war and was scrapped in 1969.
