Anti-aircraft sight

Many Type 99 rifles came equipped with a wire monopod and a flip-up sight designed for targeting aircraft. The arms on the side of the sights allowed a shooter to roughly determine the speed of an incoming aircraft, an important factor in being able to lead the target accurately. Despite these advantages, the likelihood of a Type 99 rifle being able to shoot down an American aircraft was extremely unlikely.
