C.L. Womack fought with the 1st Marine Division in a flamethrower squad during the Battle of Peleliu. During the battle Womack's squad assaulted and cleared a Japanese blockhouse with their flamethrower. Womack recovered these 50 Sen bank notes from the dead Japanese soldiers who had been manning the fortification. The burn damage on the notes is from the squad's flamethrower.
