Gift of Bernice Doiron Rehorst, 2001.344

Private First Class John T. Doiron, 188th Glider Infantry Regiment, 11th Airborne Division , 21 years old, of Marrero, Louisiana, was killed in action on February 23 1945, during a dangerous, behind-the-lines rescue of 2,146 civilian prisoners-of-war interned at Los Banos Internment Camp, Luzon, Philippine Islands. Doiron had visited his family on leave before he shipped overseas. During his last furlough he had commented to his sister Bernice, "You know I'm not coming back [from the Pacific]." Doiron's body was returned to the United States and buried in 1949 in Gretna, Louisiana. Doiron was survived by his parents, two sisters, a wife and a two-year-old daughter.
