B-29 Targeting Computer

Gift in Memory of Norman Dedeaux, USMC, WWII, 2012.265.001

The B-29 Superfortress was designed to fly long-range missions well beyond the operational range of contemporary escort aircraft and as a result was heavily armed to defend itself from enemy interceptors. The numerous onboard defensive guns were assisted by computers like this one, which allowed the weapons to fire more accurately. Multiple weapons could also be controlled from a single station by this computer, allowing the aircraft to put all of its fire accurately on a single target at once.
