Gift in Memory of Alexander James Sumner, 2016.768
A serviceman would frequently complete a variety of training at different facilities, often being transfered to completely different units prior to overseas deployment. Alexander James Sumner was drafted in 1941. Early in the war he served as administrative NCO with a medical unit, supervising reports and records. He had basic training at Camp Blanding, where he was a clerk typist and then administrative NCO until 1944. From March to May 1944, he went to Camp Howze, Texas for more training and then to Fort Ord, California before shipping overseas to APO 244 in the Mariana Islands.
