With a large “E” at its center, the Army-Navy “E for Excellence” Award was given to top performers of civilian industry to recognize outstanding contributions in wartime manufacturing. This pennant was presented on December 21, 1942 and was one of four received by the Brown Shipbuilding company. It and others like it were hung in factories, plants, shipyards, and businesses around the country, a visible source of pride and inspiration for the workers who had earned it.
