Army Nurse Corps Mess Hall

Army nurses shown in their mess hall during training in Long Beach, California in 1944. Dora Russo, pictured in this photo, served with the Army Nurse Corps in the Pacific. Russo traveled to India on a transport carrying 5,000 GIs and the hospital crew. She spent three months in India, where she treated mostly malaria patients. In March 1945, she was transfered to Okinawa, where they set up a hospitalin tents. On the night shift, she was in charge of 80 patients in two wards.
