1903 Springfield Rifle

Gift of Capt. James W. Roat, 2001.241.001

The M1903 Springfield rifle was adopted for military service in 1903, replacing the Krag-Jorgenson rifle. The M1903 saw service in World War I and was still standard issue when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941. Marines were armed with the M1903 when they landed at Guadalcanal in August of 1942.
