The main gate at the Los Alamos Project. Scientists at this site, the Manhattan Project's main research laboratory, worked on two very different types of atomic weapons, one using plutonium and the other uranium. The United States was the only world power that could provide the economic and industrial resources needed for such a colossal effort.
