Casket Name Plate for Private First Class John T. Doiron

Pfc. John T. Doiron served with 188th Glider Infantry Regiment, 11th Airborne Division On February 23, 1945, during a dangerous behind-the-lines paratrooper rescue of 2,146 civilian prisoners of war interned at Los Banos Internment Camp, Luzon, Philippine Islands, Doiron was killed in action at 21 years of age. Doiron had visited his family on leave before he shipped overseas. During this last furlough he had commented to his sister Bernice, "You know I'm not coming back [from the Pacific]." Doiron's body was returned to the US and was buried in 1949 in Gretna, Louisiana. Doiron was survived by his parents, two sisters, a wife and a two-year-old daughter.
