Louis Francis, Jr., a paratrooper with the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, was killed on 15 June 1944 during the Normandy campaign. His death came just two days shy of the one year anniversary of his brother's death from heat stroke while training at Camp Rucker, Alabama. Louis Francis, Jr. was buried in the Normandy American Cemetery and his parents were sent Louis's posthumously awarded Purple Heart and this burial flag.
