Gift in Memory of Mitchell J. Cebula, 2011.313.003
The boatswain's mate is one of the oldest enlisted ratings in the naval service. Responsible for the maintenance of the ship's structure, deck, rigging, and boats, boatswain's mates are invaluable parts of a ship's crew. Third class boatswain's mates are referred to as coxswains. The rate badge, worn on the right arm of this undress white jumper, shows two crossed anchors. This jumper was worn by Coxswain Mitchell Cebula aboard the USS Samuel Chase APA-26.
