Melted Bottles from Nagasaki

Gift of Anne Stover, 2012.314.016 and .017

William Stover was serving as a Pharmacist mate when his ship docked in Nagasaki in October of 1945. Stover explored the city where he found these bottles in the rubble. The intense heat of the blast warped them into these twisted shapes without breaking them or heavily marring the Kanji writing found on them. Two months after the bombing evidence of the blast remained commonplace.
