M-1 Carbine
The M1 Carbine was developed for specialists (like mortar crews), NCOs, and others whose duties made carrying the more cumbersome M1 Garand rifle difficult. While less powerful than the larger rifle, the M1 Carbine combined firepower greater than a pistol with a weapon lighter than most rifles.
