Ben Carson
This non-functioning grenade was designed to simulate the weight and feel of the MKII Fragmentation Grenade, and was used to hone the recruits' technique in throwing and accuracy. Hand grenades were as essential to infantry soldiers as their rifle and bayonet. Recruits were taught to use the grenade to clear bunkers, pillboxes and other confined spaces of enemy personnel. It was also the preferable weapon for nighttime usage. Unlike a rifle, it did not produce a muzzle flash that could give away the soldier's position to the enemy.
