The M1911 A1 was the Army's standard issue sidearm for over seventy years. Rugged and reliable, the pistol fired a powerful .45 caliber round. The pistol incorporated both a manual and a grip safety, and fired from a seven round magazine. It was a much sought after and highly prized weapon. Over 2.5 million M1911 A1s were produced for the military during its service life.
